Camp Food by Matt W

When the Year 6s of Grey Lynn School went to Camp Bentzon Selwyn the cook came with us. Selwyn was a great cook.  For breakfast he woke up early and made nice warm rolls. For dinner he did the same except he put butter in them. On Monday when got there we had our own lunch, for dinner we had shepard's pie and dessert was banana split but we got to choose what you had in it. On Tuesday we woke up and had cereal, fruit, rolls and baked beans or spaghetti. For lunch we had pizza and dinner was roast chicken and peaches and custard for dessert. Camp food was great!

Camp by Mia V

On Monday the 11th of June all the Year 6s went to Camp Bentzon on Kawau Island for a week.
We all had a lot of fun and all the activities were really good. We did kayaking, fishing, hut building, sailing, the confidence course, burma rope, raft building, camp cooking and orienteering.
My favourite activity was hut building because it was something I had never done and it involved a lot of team work and I really enjoyed it.

Cabins at camp. By Olivia

Cabins at camp.

At camp we all got to share a cabin with our friends. I shared my cabin with Madeline, Salote, Christina  and Langi. Our cabin was next to Ruth's. She put us next to her for a reason! Our cabin was the craziest and the LOUDEST cabin in the girls hallway. The hardest thing in the cabins that we had to do was to get to sleep. Every night it took me at least 1 hour to go to sleep because everyone was talking. One night we were so loud Ruth had to come in to our cabin and she had to sit on the ground to wait for us to go to sleep (it was really, really awkward). On the last day everyone's cabins were so messy because we had all of our dirty clothes, towels, wetsuits and our day bags on our bed.
Despite all of this it was really fun sharing a cabin with the girls because we had a lot of fun dancing in our pjs and laughing together.

Katz 1 by Anton

On Monday the 11th of June all the Year Six kids went to Camp Bentzon. Monday it was nice and sunny and that was good because the first rotation was fishing!

On Tuesday we did the burma trail. It was hard because you were blindfolded and you had to follow a rope. The rope went under, around and over things like trees and branches.

On Wednesday we went on a hike to Mansion House. We had a great cook who was Selwyn. He made buns for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Here is a photo of the group Katz 1: me, Jack, Salote, Jennifer, Amy, Phoenix and Sydnie. Our parent were Kelvin and Bo. They were amazing!!!

The A-Z of Children's Rights by Eva and Ruby

In Room 11 we have been doing Social Studies. We have also been focusing on Children's Rights. Ruth put together a hopscotch of activities using Bloom's Taxonomy. We chose to do an A-Z of children's rights slide. Everything that a child needs was put into a sideshow made by Ruby and Eva. We made our own music on Garageband.
As well as having fun we learnt a lot. We hope you enjoy the slide show!

How the Dinosaurs Became Extinct By Jack

In Room 11 we have been learning about myths and legends. We had a choice of 9 different tasks. One of the ones I chose was to create your own myth linking to something that has happened in the world. Mine is 'How the Dinosaurs Became Extinct'. Here's mine enjoy the show:

Children's Right Slide Show by Mia V

For Social Studies I picked to make a slide show about children's rights.
The task was to pick 5 children's rights that I thought were the most important and say why.
This is what I picked:

Article 28 children have the right to an education.
Article 32 the government should protect children from work that is dangerous.
Article 24 children have the right to a good quality health care clean water and food.
Article 26 the government should provide extra money for the children of families in need.
Article 31 all children have the right to relax play and join in a wide range of activities.

How the Moon got its Craters by Cameron

For English we had an option of nine activities based on Bloom's Taxonomy. I decided to do this activity:
Write a new creation myth in a country of your choice. Share as an animation/film strip/story board /play/poem. Here is what I came up with, I did the moon instead of a country.

SCAMPER by Maxi

In Room 11 we have been doing a English and social studies hopscotch using Bloom's Taxonomy. My task was use SCAMPER to improve a mythical character. I did a Griffin. A Griffin is a mythical character which is a hawk and lion combined. SCAMPER is a creative thinking tool. S stands for substitute, C is combine, A is adapt, M is magnify modify and minify, P is put to another uses, E is eliminate, R is reverse. Hope you enjoy my slide show.

Kurta by Emma, Mia M and Eva

The Task was to make a national costume of any third world country. We decided to do a Kurta which is from India. A Kurta is a flexible dress that can be worn as a formal dress or an every day dress. A Kurta can be a man's outfit or a woman's outfit. A Kurta is usually long sleeved. A Kurta is brightly coloured so it is easy to see at a special occasion. A man's Kurta is a long sleeved t-shirt with baggy pants. The Kurta is not always worn with shoes. It is mostly worn with a scarf that matches the pants. A Kurta usually has a veil to make the back of the Kurta not as plain. The Kurta was made by Mia M. The research was done by Emma and Eva.

Raninui Brand Slippers By Jennifer

Did you know Nike shoes are named after the greek godess of victory? In one of the boxes in room 11's hopscotch for this year it says to invent your own product and name it after a mythological or legendary figure and to keep in mind that the brand name needs to go with the product.
My product I have made is Rangiui brand slippers.I chose the mythological name Ranginui beacause he is the sky father. When the rain pours down on these slippers the slippers will stay dry and warm in the inside and will be wet and soaked on the outside. This product is made of elastic and fluff. These slippers are washable.
